Blue Remembered Hills

Performance dates: Wednesday 24th August - Saturday 3rd September

Synopsis: A drama written for BBC TV and starring Dame Helen Mirren amongst others, Dennis Potter's deceptively simple tale relates the activities of a group of West Country seven year olds on a summer's day during World War 2 - in a wood, a field, and a barn. At times funny, at times revealing, the audience will be transported to memories of their own childhood - the good, the bad and the ugly.

The children (all played by adults) play, fight, fantasise and swagger. Their aggressions, fears, hostilities and rivalries are a microcosm of the adult world as the children on the ground mirror the dog fights taking place in the air. Easy-going Willie tags along as burly Peter bullies gentle Raymond and is challenged by fair-minded John. Plain Audrey is overshadowed by Angela's prettiness and wreaks her angry frustrations on the boys. All of them gang up on the terrified "Donald Duck" who, abused by his mother and ridiculed by his peers, plays his own dangerous game of pyromania with tragic results.

Cast (in order of appearance):

Neil Rusling - Willie

Jeff Osborne - Peter

Nigel Parry - John

Tony Hogan - Raymond

Deanne Graham - Angela

Meredith Dooley - Audrey

Hayden Rogers - Donald
